Esplora Avenida da Liberdade

If it’s a bit more pazzaz you’re after, then head to Avenida da Liberdade, a boulevard fashioned after the Parisian Champs Elysees and situated right in the centre of town. A wide, leafy boulevard lined with high-end shops, it has an elegant pedestrian pavement running right through it, complete with wrought-iron benches and coffee kiosks at every corner. At one end of the avenue there is The Marquês de Pombal Square and Edward the 7th Park, a steep grassy area with a greenhouse and a prim garden walk with a café at the end of it, a kind of green haven in the middle of the Portuguese capital. Restauradores Square lies at the other end of the boulevard. If you take a leisurely stroll in the evening, you might strike lucky and stumble upon some live music performances in front of the kiosks. Some of the original 18th century mansions surrounding Avenida da Liberdade have been preserved, making up one of the most expensive and exclusive neighbourhoods in Lisbon.
